A postman in Bishop’s Stortford had the ginger dreadlocks he’s been growing for three decades shaved off for charity.
Jeremy White, who is based at the Royal Mail sorting and delivery office in South Street, celebrated his 50th birthday on Sunday (Oct 18). To mark the milestone he decided to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
He opted for a sponsored hair cut and asked fellow postie Dan Whitbread, 39, to shave off his distinctive dreads – some of which had grown past his knees!
Dan, who is also a trained barber, said: “He’s had the dreadlocks for the best part of 30 years. Ten years ago he had the idea to cut his hair for charity but I think he bottled it at the last minute.”
This time round, Jeremy had been sponsored £500 to undergo the chop so there was no backing out.
The duo have worked together at the South Street depot ever since Dan first started there 16 years ago. Jeremy delivers mail in the Thorley Park area and, on his days off, Dan takes over his rounds.
The big event happened on Monday morning (Oct 19), watched by the pair’s cheering colleagues.
