15 key worker jobs you can apply for in Cheshire now

From parcel delivery drivers to supermarket supervisors – there are several key worker roles to be recruited for in the run up to Christmas.

With furlough, redundancies and self-employed businesses forced to close for a second time this year, there are a number of people out of work and looking for employment.

CheshireLive have scoured Fish4Jobs and collated a list of 15 jobs you could apply for today, with little experience needed.

Yodel delivery driver

Parcel courier Yodel are recruiting drivers in a number of areas in Cheshire, including Nantwich, Malpas, Wilmslow, Stalybridge and Rudheath.

In the self-employed role, drivers will deliver parcels in their own vehicle, and be paid per parcel delivered.

Yodel suggests that on working six days a week, some shifts may be as short as three hours long, depending on parcel volume, which could be between 30 and 120 a day.

To apply for all of these roles, applicants need only to apply for one of the jobs, as Yodel will determine the nearest suitable role by postcode.

The company said: “As a self-employed courier, you’ll deliver promises, as well as parcels. You’ll use your friendliness, warmth and attention to detail to deliver every item safely with a smile.

“Although being a self-employed courier means handling things like your own taxes and using your own mobile device to scan your parcels, you won’t be on your own. We’ll point you in the direction of experts who can help.”

Recruits need to be organised and confident, insured drivers, who are ‘committed and enthusiastic.’

These roles close between November 11 and November 26 – you can view the earliest closing application here, which will in turn apply for all Yodel courier roles advertised.

Royal Mail delivery drivers

Royal Mail postal service are also looking for delivery drivers to cover Sale, Stockport and Cheadle.

The wage is £11.14 per hour, and will give workers a chance to spread festive cheer delivering parcels through the busy Christmas period.

The job description reads: “Royal Mail are now looking for Christmas delivery drivers to distribute parcels, spreading the joy over the celebratory season, especially to those who may not be able to see family and friends this year.

“This is your opportunity to have a real impact, in the heart of your community, while working for one of the UK’s most well-loved brands.”

The role is working six shifts per week from Monday to Saturday, with extra pay for Sunday overtime if required, with a minimum of 20 hours a week guaranteed.

Royal Mail said: “Our parcel delivery drivers will be provided with PPE. Induction, training and working will all be in a socially distant safe environment.”

The expected working time and start date Monday, November 16, 2020 through to Monday, January 4, 2021.

Requirements are a full UK driving license with less than six points, ‘upbeat and self-motivated’ as well as a love of the outdoors ‘whatever the weather’.

Morrisons

Supermarket giant Morrisons are recruiting for a warehouse picker and a manufacturing warehouse operative.

The temporary Christmas role of manufacturing warehouse operative is a fast-paced and demanding role transporting products and loading lorries.

The company said: “If you’re interested in taking on a new challenge and have the skills to strengthen our team further, then we want to hear from you!

The warehouse picker role is looking for someone to ensure products are of a high standard to help with deliveries and picking store orders.

Morrisons said: “You’ll play a huge part in ensuring a smooth and super quick service is delivered. It’s fast paced, high volume and extremely demanding.

“Other tasks include picking store orders from the manufacturing warehouse, checking the quality of the product lives up to our Morrisons standards, as well as general cleaning and housekeeping.”

The candidate will not need experience, but should be willing to put in some hard work and enjoys working in a team.

Warehouse cleaner

A warehouse in Rudheath is looking for workers to help sanitise the workplace to keep on top of Covid-19 safety measures.

The job description reads: “I am currently recruiting warehouse cleaners to work in Rudheath with immediate starts available.

“The hours will be from 10pm to 6am and will include weekend work. We also have days available working on a shift pattern of either 6am to 2pm or 2pm to 10pm.

“The job will involve sanitising all touch points in the warehouse.”

The job pays up to £9.14 per hour, with the application closing on November 6.

AO returns operative

Based in Crewe, as an AO returns operative, the right candidate will be working shifts to unload products and ensure they’re correctly logged.

Workers will run on four on, four off shift, and be paid up to £9.18 per hour.

Returns will need to be sorted into good and bad stock and complete a manifest of stock.

AO said: “It is important that our warehouse returns operative can work together with other team members across several departments. You will need to be smart enough to work independently and be trusted with all tasks given.

“You will need to be bold enough to report any issues and caring enough to ensure that you put the customer at the heart of everything you do.”

The candidate will need ‘excellent attention to detail’ and be able to work to deadlines.

Deliveroo

Got a bike or a scooter? Then you can be a food delivery driver for Deliveroo.

The flexible role offers payment per delivery, as well as free insurance.

Hermes

Delivery service Hermes are searching for a self-employed driver in Warrington.

Drivers will be hitting the road to deliver parcels contact-free in their local community in time for Christmas.

The job description said: “As a Delivery Driver with The Parcel People you’ll have the freedom to work independently planning your own routes and making contact-free home deliveries. Delivery Driver rates are negotiated.

“Multi-drop delivery experience is useful but not essential as full training will be provided.”

A Co-op store in Appleton, Warrington, is on the hunt for a part-time store supervisor to lead their team.

The applicant must be over 18 in order to authorise alcohol sales, and will be a positive role model for the team.

The job description reads: “This is the role for you if you’re keen to show leadership in a fast-paced environment. You need to be the kind of person who gets things done without fuss or delay. We’re also looking for:

  • great organisational skills

  • experience of supporting and coordinating colleagues’ daily activities

  • experience of handling and resolving customer queries

  • the ability to build relationships with people of all kinds

  • the drive and ideas to help improve store sales

  • the flexibility to work a range of shifts to support the opening times of the store.”

The role offers 20 hours per week at a rate of £9.75 per hour, with shift work such as store opening and closing.
