Skegby postie in poppy dress delivery to mark Remembrance Day

To mark Remembrance Day, on Wednesday, November 11, Katy Haydon is doing her post round in a striking dress covered in bright red poppies.

The bubbly 26-year-old is hoping her effort will help amass a parcel of cash for the Royal British Legion.

The popular postie, who delivers on her home patch has worked on the Skegby round for about five months. She has also worked in other areas for the postal service during the past three years and is also known as a swimming instructor, amongst other activities.

Katy, who is based at the Royal Mail depot at Sutton-in-Ashfield said: “I just wanted to do something for Remembrance Day. People can’t go to the services this year, and everyone is fed up with the coronavirus situation.

“So, I thought it might cheer people up if they saw me delivering the mail, come rain or shine, in my colourful poppy dress. It’s nothing special, just an ASOS. I wore it at wedding a few years ago. I thought, ‘I might as well get another wear out of it!’

“I just want to bring smiles to people’s faces. I absolutely love my job, it is the best job in the world and I enjoy meeting people and I want to make people happy.”

The popular postie is no stranger to doing good deeds. Katy, who is the owner of a lively Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Ralf, recently rescued a stray on her round. She spotted a nervous little dog called Brodie, and managed to reunite him with his owners.

Katy said: “I was worried at first handing him over to strangers but when he spotted the people his little tail didn’t stop wagging, so I knew he was pleased and they were genuine.”

She will be on her round from around 9am, Wednesday, delivering along Mansfield Road, by the Fox and Crown, towards the Jet garage, side streets, and in the Greenfields, Silvern and Beechwood estate areas.
