Christmas jobs in Edinburgh 2020: Royal Mail, Boots, Next and other full and part time vacancies

It’s been a tough year. Many people have been experiencing financial hardship and job worries as the Covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc.

This Christmas is likely to be a Christmas unlike any to have come before. You can expect shops, pubs and restaurants all to be quieter throughout December as people follow Scottish Government advice and stay at home.

However there are still festive job opportunities out there, with a number of roles up for grabs in the Edinburgh area.

Here’s our list of places hiring temporary workers over Christmas. We’ll continue to update this list as we’re made aware of new job vacancies, so keep an eye out!

An Amazon base near Swansea in preparation for Christmas

Amazon

Amazon are looking for picker/ packers to work day shifts and night shifts at their base in Edinburgh. Day shifts pay £9.70 per hour while the hourly rate for night shifts is £10.70. Overtime ranges from £14.55 to £19.40.

They say: “Earn extra money for Christmas by joining our seasonal retail team in Edinburgh to sort, pack and dispatch Amazon parcels. Immediate starts available, no experience needed.”

Morrisons

Morrisons supermarket in Edinburgh aren’t giving too much away on their job ad – but they do confirm they are recruiting new staff over the Christmas period.

They say they’ll offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits. Roles are part time, and between 16 and 30 hours per week. You’ll need to be quick though – they’ll stop advertising for jobs on 25 November

Jenners

Jenners in Edinburgh is looking for a temporary sales assistant to work until January 3, 2021. They are looking for somebody with retail or “customer facing” experience, and who is able to work well as part of a team.

They say: “The role of casual temporary sales assistant is a front of house role requiring flexibility to support colleagues in other areas of the store when required from time to time.”

Pay is up to £8.75 per hour, and the closing date will be 14 December.

Boots

Boots are looking for Christmas customer advisors to work at the store on Princes Street. Roles are full time, and 35-hours each week. Pay will be weekly, although Boots don’t specify exactly what the rate is on their website.

They want somebody who is able to work as part of a team, has a passion for customer service and is digitally savvy with a knowledge of new techology. Find out more on the Boots website.

Smyths Toys

They say: “Looking for a new challenge and want to be part of an expanding business filled with exciting opportunities? Come and work as a Sales Assistant for Smyths Toys Superstores!

“As a Sales Assistant , you will be expected to provide a high level of customer service, and work as part of a fast-paced and dynamic team.”

The job will be based at Fort Kinnaird and is a temporary two month role, although staff may be given the option to stay on.Shifts will be eight hours long and there may be weekend working.

Card Factory

Staff are being taken on to work in Card Factory at Craigleith Retail Park on a temporary basis until 3 January.

They say: “We are passionate about celebrating our customers’ life moments and are now looking for a Seasonal Sales Assistant to join our very successful Card Factory family to help fulfil this for the Christmas period!

“The pace is fast, our standards are high and we’re proud of it, we lead the way after all! It can get really busy in our stores, therefore you need to be able to manage lots of customers, busy tills and juggling multiple tasks. But don’t worry, you’ll have lots of fun along the way and you’ll understand why you need to be a little bit mad to work here!”

The successful candidate will get a 15 per cent staff discount and working hours which suit both themselves and the store. More information here.

Next

Next are looking for people to work as part of their Christmas Support Team on the salesfloor and stock room at the Edinburgh Gyle. The retailer is offering three weeks to 12 weeks of work, which will include Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and December 27.

Contracts are part-time with an average of 12.75 hours each week. The hourly rate is between £6.52 nd £8.72. Full details on the Next Careers website.

Gap

Yankee Candle

For those of you in West Lothian, Yankee Candle are hiring Christmas sales advisors at The Centre, Livingston.

They say roles will last until January, 2021, and the successful candidate must be flexible in their hours and have two seasons’ retail experience. Apply for the job through Indeed.

Cruise Fashion

Cruise on George Street are looking for sales advisors to work at their store until January 3. They say hours can vary from week to week.

They say: “We now require truly exceptional, driven and proven Temporary Sales Advisors to help take us to the next level. If you have a “reach for the stars” attitude and go above and beyond then take a look at our careers…. They are out of this world!”

Iceland

Another West Lothian job here. Iceland are looking for workers to help with online picking throughout the winter months.

The salary is £8.72 an hour, and the job will be based at their store in Livingston.
