Norfolk trio who are set to row the Atlantic release Christmas single

Three women who intend to row the Atlantic in December 2021 have been thinking up of other ways to raise funds during the pandemic.

West Norfolk county councillor Sandra Squire, Royal Mail postie Kate Palmer and social media director Kristi Fletcher have dubbed themselves ‘The Norfolk BrOARds’.

They are signed up to take part in the 2021 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. Rowing 3,000 miles from La Gomera in the Canaries to Antigua.

But faced with the cancellation of fundraising events and businesses being more cautious about sponsorship at the moment, the trio have been finding new ways of getting creative.

With the help of local musicians, and local Emneth studio, Grange Farm Studio’s, the result is their own version of Santa Baby, which will be available for pre-release on download and streaming services from December 1.

Mrs Squire said: “I think compared with wanting to row an ocean and face everything Mother Nature can throw at us, doing this pushed us infinitely more out of our comfort zone. We’re much more comfortable on the sea than in a recording studio!”

The ladies also had singing lessons at King’s Lynn Singing School to build confidence.

Mrs Fletcher said: “We’ve never sung in public before, but we’ve really enjoyed the whole process, although it’s not been easy to get everything done as we would have liked due to Covid restrictions.”

Mrs Palmer said: “It was amazing watching the whole process and finally hearing the complete song….grinning inanely at how incredible it sounded.”

Faced with the threat of lockdown, the accompanying video, filmed by Keith at Keith Osborn Photography was mostly shot during recording and the rest filmed the day before lockdown.
