Residents in central Bedfordshire warned of bogus ‘Royal Mail’ email scam

Central Bedfordshire are warning residents to act with caution if they receive an email that appears to have been sent by the ‘Royal Mail’.

The email claims there has been unsuccessful delivery attempt of a package or large letter from the HMRC.

The email instructs the recipient to click on a link to rearrange delivery of the package.

On first impressions the email may seem genuine, but it is in fact a scam attempting to obtain your personal information and bank card details.

Some residents have reported that upon clicking the link in the email they are then asked to enter their personal information and bank card details to make a ‘redelivery payment’.

If you ever receive a suspicious email you should report it, by forwarding to the “Suspicious Email Reporting Service” (SERS) at report@phishing.gov.uk and then delete it from your device.

Do not reply to the email or click on any links or attachments and do not provide any personal details or financial information to the sender.

Please help protect others from falling victim to this type of scam, by letting your family, friends and neighbours know about this alert.
