A COUPLE who were once known as being “good jivers” are this week celebrating six decades of happy marriage.
Jim Watson, 85, and Anne McGaulley, 81, were both born in Crosshill, met in Cowdenbeath Palais at the dancing where Jim played the saxophone in his dad’s band “Ken Watson’s Big Band”.
After a period of courting, they married in St Kenneth Chapel in Crosshill and got settled in Cowdenbeath before having four children – Paul, Patrick, Gavin and Anna-Marie.
They now also have three grandchildren – Callum, Brooke and Kathryn.
Jim was a joiner to trade and worked for Miner Bingo and then went on to work for Glenrothes Development Corporation for 20 plus years.
Anna worked as a bus conductress on the buses in Lochgelly then a machinist in the Jeltek in Cowdenbeath and went on to work for Royal Mail in the Post Office Cowdenbeath for more than 15 years.
After retiring they moved to Glenrothes in 2015 to be nearer their daughter. Jim took up golf when he retired and Anna got fed up being a “golf widow” so she said “If you can’t beat them join them and then beat them” so she took up golf and won lots more trophies than Jim did.
They were members of Thornton Golf Club for many years and played at many golf clubs in Fife and beyond. They both enjoyed a few visits to Celtic Park in the hospitality section where they met the players after the match.
The happy couple still reside in Glenrothes and love going out for tea and cake with family. They enjoy a bar lunch at Wee Jimmies in Cowdenbeath as Anna and the late owner of Wee Jimmies, June were great friends from the age of 18.
Both still love listening to big band music, watching films by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers and watching football and golf.
Anna-Marie, they couple’s daughter, told the Times that the couple can’t celebrate as they normally would for obvious reasons, but insisted the family have a number of surprises planned for them.
