Dog walker finds box of Covid-19 testing kits dumped in Dane Park in Margate

A box of testing kits for Covid-19 has been found dumped in a park by a dog walker.

Josh Halcro was in Dane Park in Margate on Wednesday morning with his girlfriend when they made the concerning discovery.

The couple noticed a cardboard box next to a bench and on closer inspection, saw it was addressed to Giles Care Ltd in Cliftonville and filled with tests for Covid-19 – with one ripped open.

Mr Halcro said: “Every morning I take my dog for a walk and often you find things – the park turns into a different place at night and you sometimes come across strange things the next day.

“We were on the east side of the park, by the fountain, and saw the box by a bench. It looked like it had been placed there.

“I thought it was strange so I had a look and there was a big white label on it. We looked inside and I saw the coronavirus tests.

“When I saw that one was open I thought ‘ok, should we be near this? This could be used tests and a big box of coronavirus’.”

Mr Halcro, 25, a tutor living in Margate, tried calling Giles Care Ltd, a supported living facility for adults, but the number didn’t connect.

“I put a post on some of the Thanet Facebook groups instead and someone from Royal Mail said they would pick it up and the matter is under investigation,” he said.

It is now understood the box was handed to someone living at the premises by a postman, but is not known how it came to end up in the park.

Giles Care was not contactable and so unavailable for comment.

Royal Mail has been asked for a comment.
