The Royal Family’s official Twitter account sent its followers wild today after appearing to accidentally post the word ‘Thanks’ in a now deleted tweet.

Despite only being online for six minutes, the awkward mistake was ridiculed by social media users, with one person joking: ‘Well it’s about time I got some recognition!’

The tweet received 1,260 Likes and 591 retweets during the time it was posted – and it isn’t the first blunder to have occurred on the account, which has over 4.3 million followers.

Last October, the Royal Family’s Twitter profile briefly liked a tweet blasting Meghan Markle’s ‘haters’, and praising her for bringing a huge ‘seismic shift in power and culture’ to The Firm.

In May 2019, the people behind the account – which shares updates from Buckingham Palace – were left red-faced again after misspelling Princess Eugenie’s name as ‘Eugene’.

It’s unclear why the tweet was shared – but social media users seemed to have a wonderful time guessing the post’s meaning.

One person joked: ‘You’re welcome Liz, and I’ve kept the receipt in case you want to change it kid, OK?’

Another said: ‘Can’t wait to hear the story behind this misfire’, while a third quipped: ‘My privilege Ma’am’, in response to the tweet.

A fourth admitted: ‘I’m concerned about the person that wrote this… did they faint, answer the door… or worse?’

MailOnline has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

The Twitter account shares updates, pictures and videos from Buckingham Palace about the work and activities of the Queen and members of the Royal Family.

The last post from the page – before the now deleted ‘Thanks’ – was about the Earl and Countess of Wessex joining FoodWise TLC volunteers this week to help prepare meals for families living locally.

Alongside pictures of the royal couple, the thread read: ‘Volunteer drivers have delivered over 30,000 FoodWise meals since March to more than 300 families in need of support across Guildford and Woking.

‘The Countess of Wessex, Patron, also gave a helping hand to staff preparing for Christmas at the Shooting Star Children’s Hospices Hampton Hill charity shop.’
