The fourth season of The Crown has introduced audiences to a slew of new characters drawn from the pages of history, including Princess Diana and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
The Netflix drama – which is based on real-life events but not entirely factual – follows the lives of the British royal family from the death of King George VI in 1952, when Queen Elizabeth II takes the throne.
While some, including the royal family, have hit out at the new series for their depictions of certain characters, others seem to have simply taken the opportunity to make an extra dollar.
Searches for Princess Diana-related memorabilia have skyrocketed in recent weeks, according to eBay, after the debut of the season which focuses on her marriage to Prince Charles.
The Sun reports that eBay has seen a 73 per cent increase in searches for ‘Princess Diana’, and it looks like sellers are trying to make the most of the boom in interest.
Princess Diana’s hair is sold
An American seller sold strands of Princess Diana’s hair for over $A500 in October.
He claimed that Princess Diana had taped her hair inside a book with the inscription “My Lock, Diana 1995” and that he had ten pieces of documentation to prove the authenticity.
The book wasn’t sold as part of this transaction.

“Prince Charles and Princess Diana – slice of their wedding cake,” reads the description.
“Condition is Used. Dispatched with Royal Mail 2nd Class.”

The complete set, includes the invitation itself along with the service booklet, ceremonial booklet, several letters and a few glossy photos of Princess Diana.

Princess Diana’s designer dress

Princess Diana’s ‘Shame Bike’
A bicycle that once belonged to Princess Diana was recently on sale for twice as much as it was purchased for just two years ago.
Princess Diana was only recently engaged when she was pictured cycling around Kensington on the blue Raleigh Traveller bicycle, a move in which she was criticised for not being regal enough.
It was on sale for £20,000 – over $A35,000 – but has since been taken down from eBay.
It’s not clear if the item was sold or has been removed from sale.
Booklet from the Princess Diana Service of Thanksgiving
“A very fine issue of the extremely rare 2007 Order of Service from the Service of Thanksgiving for Diana, Princess of Wales,” is on sale on eBay for a cool $US4250 – or $A5600.
Even with the small handling wear and tear, the seller claims that this document is from the service that Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall declined to attend to not disrupt the service.
