Prince Charles has confirmed that he will be getting the Covid-19 vaccine – but will wait his turn.
The future king told staff administering the injection yesterday that he was ‘way down the list’ for a jab.
He made the off-the-cuff admission as he and wife Camilla visited a vaccination centre at a hospital in Gloucester to meet frontline health workers.
The prince told staff: ‘I think I am way down the list and will have to wait.’ As a healthy 72-year-old, he will be behind care home residents and their carers, those over 80, frontline healthcare workers, over-75s and clinically vulnerable over-70s.
Prince Charles also explained that because he had coronavirus earlier this year, he has antibodies.

Since the Pfizer jab was rolled out, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust has vaccinated more than 1,300 health workers across the county.
Senior infection control nurse Coral Boston said: ‘Charles talked about the disproportionate numbers of BAME people that Covid affected and how important it was for people of colour to have the vaccination. It was great that he acknowledged that.
‘He also mentioned that he would like the vaccine but because he’s had Covid he carries the antigen.’
Charles and Camilla put safety first as they donned face masks and goggles as they visited the Vaccination Centre at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital on Thursday.
The Duchess of Cornwall, 73, put on a stylish display in a blue and red tartan coat featuring a faux fur collar, and completed her outfit with knee high black boots and a pair of leather gloves.
Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales, 71, who could be seen using his signature socially-distant greeting, wrapped up warm in a camel coloured coat.
During the visit, the couple met with front line health and care workers administering and receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.

Their Royal Highnesses previously visited Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in June of this year, marking the first engagement outside of a Royal residence by any Member of the Royal Family following the first national lockdown.
During a conversation with one healthcare worker, Charles revealed he lost his sense of taste and smell while suffering from coronavirus in March and said it hadn’t yet fully returned.
The Covid-19 vaccine is the biggest breakthrough since the pandemic began, potentially saving tens of thousands of lives.
The country-wide vaccination programme is the largest in NHS history and is already in its second week. Just like other routine vaccines, this works by teaching the immune system how to defend itself against attack.

The vaccine is given as an injection into the upper arm and is given as 2 doses, at least 21 days apart.
An effective vaccine will be the best way to protect the most vulnerable from COVID-19 and the UK’s roll out only began when the Pfizer vaccine, which has been trialled on around 45,000 people, was confirmed to have met the strict standards of safety, quality and effectiveness set out by the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), which enabled it to be given to the public.
The UK’s vaccination programme will build up steadily in the weeks and months ahead and will gradually be extended to more and more people in order of age and risk.
To help, people must wait to be contacted – the NHS will let people know when it’s their turn to have the vaccine.
