Barton Lane: hit and run leaves woman injured

A 68-YEAR-OLD woman, who was a victim of a hit and run accident, is looking for the driver who crashed into her.

Christine Kelly was crossing the road at the Old High Street, at the junction of Barton Lane in Headington, when she was hit by a vehicle travelling at high speed.

The vehicle failed to stop and drove off.

The incident took place on December 19.

Emergency services attended the scene and took Mrs Kelly to the hospital, where she was kept in for observation for over 24 hours.

Mrs Kelly suffered from a number of minor injuries, including a broken foot.

The victim said: “I have a big boot on now, and it is very awkward to get about, my husband has to lift me to the top of the stairs and do my meals for me.”

At the time of the accident, Mrs Kelly was walking her 11 month old chihuahua puppy, Harry, who is now ‘permanently scarred’ and cannot be walked near traffic.

Mrs Kelly’s daughter, Emma Kelly, said the car was ‘seen by a witness and CCTV leaving the scene at excessive speed unfortunately the number plate was not visible on the CCTV and going too fast for witness to obtain’.

Mrs Kelly said she was ‘disappointed’ with the how Thames Valley Police [TVP] handled the report.

Her daughter added that the family had received ‘zero’ support from the police force and felt ‘let down’.

Mrs Kelly said: “I am not very happy because I am sure that car would have been on CCTV off the London Road, but the police said they couldn’t find anything.

“It seems like they’ve closed the case now.”

TVP said that the Professional Standards Department are looking into the complaint. Whilst the complaint is being investigated no further comment can be made at this time.
