Royal Mail adds 45 new Don-Bur trailers

Royal Mail is to add 45 new tri-axle Don-Bur Lifting Deck trailers to its fleet.

The new design trailer adds an additional 30% capacity to the number of cages when compared to the three-quarter length Lifting Deck step-frame trailer, as well as providing a 7% fuel saving.

According to the manufacturer the larger trailer can eliminate one in three trips and will result in a saving of 7.8 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Don-Bur has a long-standing relationship with Royal Mail and last year, provided them with 60 new “Blade” panelled Lifting Deck trailers.

Using thin, steel faced, composite panels to lower unladen weight the Blade design is more resistant to damage which reduces maintenance and extends the lifespan of the trailer. While the recent lifting roof design trailer built for Royal Mail in 2020 increases headroom whilst loading but then lowers itself to a 4.5m overall height before transit.

Richard Low, fleet engineer at Royal Mail, said: “We have a longstanding working relationship with Don-Bur, who are extremely adept at understanding real-world logistics challenges and have developed new and exciting technology for us. Jointly, we’ve designed and engineered more efficient trailers for an ecologically sustainable future.”
