Rising demand for wi-fi helps BT gain upgrade | Business

After a year of lockdown restrictions, few could dispute that a decent wi-fi connection now ranks up there with water, electricity and gas as things we need to survive.

Analysts at Morgan Stanley reckon that broadband is on the verge of becoming “the fourth utility” and that its growing importance has made us happier to pay more for it.

This “new rationality” among consumers means that, after years of price wars to attract more households, broadband providers should be able to raise their prices by about 4 per cent, on average, over the spring.

That obviously bodes well for BT, the phone and broadband giant, although Morgan Stanley expects it to really feel the benefit further down the line.
