PERSONAL data on Scotland’s vaccine passport app has been shared with a multitude of private firms and online businesses, it’s reported.
Details of people’s full names, their date of birth and their jab records come up when someone’s QR code on the NHS Scotland Covid status app is scanned on the separate verifier app.
That information is claimed by the Sunday Mail to have been shared with companies including Amazon, Microsoft, ServiceNow, Royal Mail and an AI facial recognition firm.
It is now required by law to show proof of inoculation to get into football grounds and nightclubs in Scotland.
However there are currently plans to scrap the scheme in England.
Privacy information on the Scots passport app reveals that personal information of it’s users will be shared with Albasoft, Amazon Web Services, CFH Docmail, Gov.uk Notify Service, iProov, Jumio, Microsoft Azure, NetCompany, Royal Mail and NetCompany.
However, even though the information is “shared”, it is claimed not all of companies will be able to “access” the information.
Scots have taken to social media to share their frustrations about the claims.
One person tagged Nicola Sturgeon, Humza Yousaf and the SNP in a tweet which said: “shambolic #VaccinePassport rollout in #Scotland continues to fail.
“Now, it’s revealed they’re scattering the private medical data across the big tech giants!”
Someone else posted on Twitter: “Scotland vaccine passport app shares your personal data with a host of private firms including Amazon, Microsoft and an AI facial recognition firm.
“But it’s definitely all about your health” with a rolling eyes emoji.
A third user asked: “Why is personal medical data on the #NHSapp #COVID19 #VaccinePassport app in #Scotland being shared with tech companies?
“Was consent sought from users before it was shared?”
The Scottish Government has confirmed that any data shared is done “securely” and “in compliance with data privacy laws.”
A Scottish Government spokesperson said:
Vaccine passports in Scotland: When they start and how to get one
“The limited data which is shared is done so securely and in compliance with data privacy laws.
“It is made clear in privacy notices that some information may be shared with trusted delivery partners and this has been the case across our entire vaccination programme.
“This is required to ensure services operate for the benefit of users without compromising data security.
“We have conducted lengthy and robust Data Impact Assessments for all parts of the vaccination programme, including the Covid Status app.
“These will be made available in due course.”
Scottish Conservatives’ Murdo Fraser told the Daily Record: “There have been serious data privacy concerns with the SNP’s vaccine passport app since the word go.
“The news that users’ personal data will be shared with so many private companies is extremely worrying.
“This will only serve to further erode public trust in the SNP’s shambolic vaccine passport scheme.”
