The Christmas jobs where you can get up to £2000 sign on bonus

With thousands of seasonal job vacancies still available and worries about staff shortages and supply chain issues disrupting Christmas, employers are trying to entice prospective employees with sign on bonuses of up to £2,000.

This year, more than 1,300 jobs were advertised with a Christmas bonus, according to research from jobs website Adzuna.

Offering the highest bonus is Amazon with £2,000 for seasonal warehouse workers.

DPD warehouse night sorters could start on a bonus of £1,000.

While Ocado, AO.com, and Hand Picked Hotels are all offering £500 to new seasonal staff.

Such efforts are a reflection severe staff shortages – especially for lorry drivers and warehouse staff – and supply chain issues which could cause disruption as we near the Christmas period.

Approximately 26,307 seasonal jobs are still up for grabs across the country, according to the analysis.

That’s almost double as many as were available at this time last year.

Tesco still has 871 vacancies open across the UK, Hermes has 740, Sainsbury’s has 629, and Royal Mail has 200.

The research shows many of the vacancies are in the sectors where staff shortages are worst – retail, logistics, and warehousing.

Andrew Hunter, co-founder of Adzuna, told The Guardian that bonuses from larger companies could put smaller firms at a disadvantage.

“The Christmas season is critical for many businesses’ bottom lines, and if they can’t solve their worker shortages soon, it could be damaging both for companies and consumers,” he said.

Hospitality, retail and logistics sector chiefs told the Commons’ environment, food and rural affairs committee that it will probably not be Christmas as usual this year.

Kate Nicholls, chief executive of UK Hospitality, said the supply chains for pubs, hotels and restaurants were “nowhere near resilient”.

She claimed around 20 per cent of deliveries were being disrupted.

“We will deliver as good a Christmas as we are able to but not as good as we would want to,” she said.

Tom Southall, policy director of the Cold Chain Federation, which represents the refrigerated logistics sector, said shortages of lorry drivers and warehouse workers could cause empty shelves in supermarkets.

He told MPs: “Christmas as usual? Probably not. How that will manifest itself, there may be gaps on the shelves as we’ve seen over the past few months.”
