“About 1,500 Christmas puddings paid for by the Queen (through the Privy Purse) are distributed to staff throughout the Palaces, staff in the Court Post Office and Palace police,” confirms the Royal Family website.

“Each pudding is accompanied by a greeting card from the Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.”

Traditionally, the Queen would place an order at Harrods or royal grocer Fortnum & Mason for the 1,500 puddings.

It will be a tough Christmas for Her Majesty having lost her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, earlier this year.

Philip died aged 99 on Friday April 9.

Previously, The Queen reacted with sheer joy and hilarity after Meghan Markle gave her a singing hamster toy for Christmas.

The Daily Star reports that the Monarch was so happy with the present that she burst out laughing, before remarking: “It can keep my dogs company.”

A source said: “Meghan bought a little hamster that sings with a little rope for Her Majesty.

“It was so funny, especially when the corgis tried to take hold of the toy.”
