Christmas is an expensive time of year, so many might be wondering if there’s a way to earn a bit of extra cash this winter.

Students returning home for the holidays might be asking how they can stay afloat, while there’s plenty of families who could do with an extra boost.

For some people it’s also just a good way to stay busy and try something new.

Living in such a busy city, there’s no shortage of Christmas gigs that pay up to £15 an hour and are flexible.

That means you could start this week and pack it in once Christmas is out the way.

Some of the most popular jobs are in events staffing, with Christmas parties happening nearly every weekend, football and rugby games from Wembley to Twickenham, and major concerts with top bands.

You could find yourself working to the sound of England smashing in goals or your favourite band playing their latest music.

Host Staffing, based in Old Street, are advertising roles starting at £10.85 and going as high as £14 an hour, and all they need to know is that you’re over 18 and living in zones 1 to 6.

If you can help people feel naughty this Christmas, you can also get a job at Ann Summers, which pays £9.40 an hour to work at their Wardour Street branch in Soho.

Christmas is also a time for treating yourself, so what better temporary job than a stint at Hotel Chocolat, which gives all staff a 50% discount on their products whilst paying £10.65 an hour.

You might want to start the New Year gym membership early if you choose to work there.

Another popular job that might surprise you is working for Royal Mail, who are still delivering millions of cards each Christmas.

It is currently advertising for seasonal mail sorters for what it perhaps unsurprisingly describes as its “busiest time of year”.

It pays £13.45 an hour, and if you are willing to work nights, £15.75.

According to the Royal Mail, “during a single shift, you could sort over a million items with your team”.

You could earn nearly £16 an hour as a Christmas post sorter

TKMaxx and Fortnum & Mason are also always looking for Christmas temps, with wages starting just over £9 an hour.

So if you’re looking for some extra money this Christmas, be it because you’re struggling to make ends meet at Christmas or your parents are telling you to get off your backside (you know who you are), there are plenty of opportunities that don’t require much experience.
