Royal Mail delays: Residents fail to receive post for 3 weeks – 36 postcodes affected

Royal Mail is experiencing delivery issues for the second time this year. The company has not delivered post to a number of areas across the UK – one of which is Chelmsford in Essex, and residents have complained about not having any post for up to three weeks. 

Householders in the Chelmsford postcodes CM1, CM2 and CM3 have gone without postal deliveries since October. 25. 

Andy Howell, who lives in Great Baddow said he was “lucky” to get his post delivered every 10 days. 

He went onto say a letter from the hopsital for a physiotherapy appointment for his wife turned up two hours before her appointment was due.

“This letter was dated the first of November and arrived yesterday, 16 November,” Andy explained. 

“It meant that she missed her appointment, so we’re a bit fed-up.

“It would just be nice if they could do what they’re supposed to be doing and deliver the mail on a regular basis, by that I don’t mean every two weeks.” 

Michael Crouch from Felsted also complained any the lack of postal deliveries in his area. 

“It’s just shocking,” he remarked. “I don’t know how else to summarise it really. 

“Fortunately a lot of communication comes through email but many organisations including our bank, the NHS, still rely upon postal deliveries.” 

As well as waiting for his post to arrive, Michael has been waiting for his new bank cars which replace those that expired last month. 

In a statement, Royal Mail apologised to customers.

“We are experiencing some disruption to service due to resourcing issues which we are addressing as quickly as possible,” it said.

But it seems more and more people are suffering from the delays. 

On Twitter, Steve Cooke said: “@RoyalMailHelp Am I able to collect parcels from Chelmsford Mail Centre? One has been there since Saturday and you haven’t even attempted to deliver it.” 

Ellie Holditch added: “@RoyalMail whoever is now in charge of the changes at Chelmsford NEEDS additional training. 1 lot of post in 2 weeks is not a sufficient service.” 

Kat Cable wondered: “@RoyalMailHelp I’m waiting on three parcels (one of which should have been delivered two weeks ago). Do you have any update on what’s happening in Chelmsford CM2 and when we can expect to receive any post?” 

Moya Kapas mentioned: “Having issues with my post in Chelmsford. 2 tracked parcels held at mail centre/delivery centre for over a week & post late.Why is the Mail being held there for so long They said have reorganised the Mail routes but that’s not good enough. Delays have consequences, can you explain.” 

Chelmsford is not the only place affected, Claire Starr tweeted: “Oxford East MP @AnnelieseDodds says she’s demanded a meeting with Royal Mail following weeks of delays to post in the city. Royal Mail says it’s to do with route changes for posties & high sickness absence – they’re trying to resolve the situation @BBCOxford.” 

Those living in Coatrbridge, near Glasgow have also been experiencing issues. 

@IamtheBM tweeted Royal Mail directly: “@RoyalMailHelp your ML5 service is non existent…..and has been for weeks.” 

Royal Mail Help replied: “Really sorry, there are some known delays in the area. More info can be found on our Service Update page. The local management are doing all they can to restore normal service ASAP. ^Andy.” 

Michele Gardner also commented; “@RoyalMailHelp why is the MlL5 area not getting mail? when is getting resolved? Im waiting on documents.” 

According to Royal Mail’s website: “Deliveries are operating as normal across most of the country today. 

“We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. 

“In a small number of local offices this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as COVID-related self isolation, high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. 

“In those cases we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. 

“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.” 

The delivery offices currently “most impacted” are:

  • Harold Hill DO (RM3)
  • Holbeck DO (LS11)
  • Nantwich DO (CW5)
  • Northwich DO (CW8 to CW9)
  • Orton Southgate DO (PE2, PE7 to PE9)
  • Oxford DO (OX1 to OX2)
  • Rayleigh DO (SS6)
  • Shrewsbury DO (SY1 to SY5)
  • South Ockendon (RM15)
  • Sturminster Newton DO (DT10)
  • Trillick DO (BT78)
  • Upminster DO (RM14)
  • Ware DO (SG9 to SG12)
  • Warrington DO (WA1 to WA2 and WA4 to WA5)
  • Westham DO (BN23 to BN24)
