‘It’s here to stay, deal with it’ – readers react to Barrow Covid stats

READERS have had their say as the number of coronavirus cases in the borough of Barrow increased by 40 in a 24 hour period.

A total of 11,258 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Barrow when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on Thursday, up from 11,218 on the previous day.

The rate of infection in Barrow stood at 16,872 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the England average of 14,578.

John Eccles said: “No wonder when everyone is acting as if it’s gone away! Covid is still with us and is killing people. Wear a mask it’s not that difficult you are protecting yourself and others. I feel like I’m the only one who is wearing one and that everyone is looking at me but I’d rather wear one and protect others and myself. Also I wish people would stop saying ‘oh but we’re double jabbed’ it doesn’t stop you catching covid.”

Brynja Cunninghame said: “It’s bad in a few places again, I noticed as royal mail listed 20 delivery and post offices affected by staff shortages caused by covid all up and down England.”

Tony Moon said: “And still no mask wearing or if they do incorrectly.”

Ange O’Halloran said: “Vaccinated people can still get and spread covid but yet are allowed to wander around and do as they please (and yes they do it maskless) if they have someone at home who tests positive? Anyone who lives with a covid+ person should stay home for 10 days regardless of vaccination status.”

Clinton Tyson said: “Bore off pal, more things to worry about than just covid. It’s here to stay, deal with it. You might want to live in your house in fear for the rest of your life but you’ll find yourself in the minority.”
