Queen Letizia of Spain joins Swedish royal family at a state banquet

The Swedish royal family treated King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain to a glamorous state banquet at the Royal Palace in Stockholm this evening as part of the couple’s two-day visit.

Mother-of-two Letizia, 49, commanded attention in a navy ruffled ballgown and glittering tiara, while heir to the Swedish throne Crown Princess Victoria, 44, who arrived alongside her husband Prince Daniel, opted for a floral embellished gown and gem encrusted tiara for the occasion.

She was joined by Princess Sofia, 36, Prince Carl Philip, 42, as well as King Carl Gustaf, 75, and Queen Silvia, 77, as they hosted the Spanish royal couple.

Letizia, who wore her brown locks swept back in a chic bun, dazzled in diamonds – including an impressive tiara, eye-catching earrings and matching bracelets. 

Princess Sofia, who shares three children with her husband Prince Carl Philip, showcased her fashion prowess in a figure-hugging white gown, teamed with a shimmering clutch. Her husband looked dapper in his formal attire. 

Elsewhere, Queen Silvia was a bronze beauty in a metallic dress which featured pearl detailing on its overlay, while her husband looked equally charming in all his finery.

Earlier in the day, Letizia and her husband attended an official welcome ceremony for their state visit at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, alongside the Swedish royals.

She proved her fashion prowess once again as she turned heads in an eye-catching bold red dress complete with matching statement headpiece.

The royal, who wrapped up warm in a tan-coloured cape style coat complete with fur trim neckline, completed her ensemble with a pair of coordinating stiletto heels, mini bag and matching gloves.  

Meanwhile, Queen Silvia of Sweden, 77, opted for a vibrant purple coat and hat – adding a butterfly brooch and pair of dark mauve block heels to finish off her polished look.  

Meanwhile, Felipe, 53, appeared equally polished for the visit in response to an invitation from the King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

The royal couple arrived at the Residence of the Embassy of Spain on Tuesday to speak with Spanish residents living in the country.  

The Spanish royals are on a two-day state visit to Sweden.  The trip comes less than a week after the couple held a glittering state banquet in honour of the Italian President Sergio Mattarella’s visit to Spain.

On Tuesday, the couple were seen travelling from the Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport, the Spanish royals were accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Science and Innovation, as well as the Secretary of State for Commerce.

They later arrived at the Residence of the Embassy of Spain in Sweden, where Felipe addressed the Spanish residents, saying: ‘All of you, those of you who have been here longer and those who are still looking for your place in this new host country, we would like to send you a message of support, as you represent, outside of our borders, much of the best of our country.’

He added: ‘We are certain that you demonstrate not only your ability to work and commitment, but also your tenacity and ingenuity, as well as your excellent training.’

The Spanish community in Sweden has grown at a sustained rate in the last decade, and up to 37.12 per cent in five years, as Spaniards emigrate to take advantage of job opportunities.
