Post box installed in school after pupils devastated by knitting theft

POSTIE Nicki Hall has turned Father Christmas at a special school to help youngsters overcome the disappointment of having their display vandalised, and make sure their present lists get to Santa.

Nicki, from Bedale and children at Mowbray School, were devastated when a unique knitted topper they had designed for the town’s post box was stolen. It had been drawn up by the youngsters as a thank you to NHS workers for their heroic efforts during the Covid crisis. The local Ninja Knitters worked their magic and the finished article was given pride of place on the town centre post box.

Within a week it had been stolen. Nicki and husband Martin were upset, and with Christmas coming decided to put a smile back on the faces of youngsters at the school. They built them their own Santa post box, complete with a Ninja Knitter topper. They have also given them 200 envelopes so the children can write down their lists.

Nicki said: “We decided to embark on this secret Christmas mission to make the community smile again and thought with Christmas coming it was a great opportunity to give the children their own postbox so they could write to Santa through Royal Mail’s free Santa Service. The Ninja Knitters were very keen to be part of it, Martin made the post box and we coordinated with Bev Paterson from Mowbray School to install the post box. We are so pleased it has all worked out so well and Santa’s elf will be going back to the school on December 8 to collect the post box so Santa gets the letters in plenty of time.”
