Postman bans ‘rude’ resident over ‘unnecessarily snarky’ note

A postman banned a “rude” resident from receiving mail after they left an “unnecessarily snarky” note for him.

The postal worker has vowed not to deliver mail to the resident after they left a ranting note accusing him of “pretending” to ring their doorbell with a parcel.

The resident’s handwritten warned the postman “don’t even think about putting a card through the door without ringing the doorbell”.

The note claimed they had been in all day when a previous delivery card was left, before demanding in capital letters that the postman “ring the bell and deliver the parcel.”

The postal carrier shared a photo of the message and posted it in a social media group for other posties on December 1.

He said he hopes they “enjoy collecting their mail from the office over Christmas.”

The postman later bragged about having a “naughty list” for anyone who leaves notes at their door, adding there is “no way off.”

Colleagues in the Facebook group rallied behind their colleague, condemning the resident’s “cheeky and awful attitude” and “unnecessarily snarky” note.

They pointed out that no postie would want to hold onto someone’s mail longer than necessary.

The postie claims it’s the second time he was been spoken to in such a manner and has no plans to deliver to the property in future.

Royal Mail said their staff work “extremely hard” to deliver mail to customers and while the majority is delivered, they sometimes have to leave a card or deliver the item to a neighbour.

The ranting note taped to the front door read: “Royal Mail. Don’t even think about putting a card through the door without ringing the doorbell and pretending that the delivery was attempted but no one was in – as happened on Saturday.

“We were in all day and we’ll be in today, Tuesday. RING THE BELL AND DELIVER THE PARCEL.”

The note was shared on Facebook and amassed more than 500 likes and comments.

In response to questions from other postal workers, the postman said: “[I’m] not planning on delivering there in the future, it’s the second time I’ve been spoken to like this along with the van share guy.

“[They] stopped tipping a few years ago after accusing one of us of theft and speaking to us like s**t.

“It wasn’t me [who left the attempted delivery note], probably a parcel driver but it’s my delivery I’ve had for the last 10 years.

“[But it] would have been one of the parcels we left for someone else to do, either way it’s aimed at us.

“On the positive side, I got a nice tip from one of the decent customers not long after.”

A lot of people agreed that the resident’s message was inappropriate, with one commenter remaking: “Would have more than likely given my tuppence worth, redelivering that. Such an unnecessarily snarky note to leave.”

Another person added: “Some vile people about these days who have no idea about the pressure or work we go through.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Every single item of mail is important to us. Our postmen and women work extremely hard to deliver to mail to customers across the country, six days a week, in all weathers.

“Thankfully the vast majority of items are securely delivered to customers, but if we believe a customer is not at home, we will attempt to deliver the item to a neighbour and leave a card.

“If we can’t deliver to them, we’ll leave a card and take the item back to the Customer Service Point where customers can either collect it or arrange a redelivery.

“We would advise anyone who has delivery concerns can contact the Royal Mail customer service team.”
