MP Sally-Ann Hart visits Rye Royal Mail office ahead of Christmas rush

A POST office has received a visit from an MP who commended staff on their work throughout the pandemic.

Sally-Ann Hart, MP for Hastings and Rye, visited the Rye Delivery Post Office to pass on season’s greetings to the Royal Mail team who are working hard to deliver cards and gifts in time for Christmas.

It was also an opportunity for her to thank postal workers for their work during the Covid-19 pandemic.

She also heard how the team have worked “tirelessly” over the past 18 months to help keep communities connected and businesses trading.

Ms Hart said: “As key workers, Royal Mail staff have been working flat out with little respite throughout the pandemic and – as always – it is getting even busier in the run up to Christmas.

“It was a pleasure to meet the local team in Rye, and to offer them my personal thanks as well as highlight the gratitude of the community for the hard work that they do day in, day out.

“As we approach the Christmas season, they will be delivering many parcels and cards, helping to spread a bit of festive cheer after what has been a challenging time for many.”

Ms Hart was shown around the delivery office and introduced to postmen and women as they gear up for Christmas.

Royal Mail delivery office manager James Watford said: “We are proud to have played our part throughout the pandemic by keeping the community connected.

“There’s no doubt it has been challenging, but we remain very grateful to our customers for their support and for keeping us so busy.

“Now we will be working even harder to deliver Christmas parcels and cards, so it was a real boost to have a visit from Sally-Ann to see the operation and to support the team.”
