Package of cannabis ‘sent via post’ seized by police

A PACKAGE containing cannabis which was reportedly sent in the post has been seized by police officers.

The box, which has a ‘strong’ smell of cannabis, was not delivered to the recipient in Weymouth but instead to the town’s police station today (Tuesday, December 7).

Photos of the ‘special delivery’ shared by a police officer appear to show a brown box with cannabis inside, with Royal Mail labels around the package.

After seizing the package, a police officer warned people not to buy drugs or have them sent via the post or courier.

A spokesman for Weymouth and Portland Police said: “Good morning from Weymouth Neighbourhood Policing Team.

“Today we would like to remind any members of the community that do not already know that cannabis is an illegal substance to be in possession of.

“This is whether it is delivered by your local dealer, courier, carrier pigeon or Royal Mail.

“The fact that cannabis smells so strongly invariably means that it will be delivered to a local police station and not to the intended recipient.

“Please do not be tempted to buy illegal drugs or send/have them sent via any of the above methods.

“This also includes the much more serious offence of importation of controlled/illegal drugs into the country.

“Those identified will be spoken to. Please also be aware that any drugs cautions or convictions can impact foreign travel and also any future employment.”
