Royal Mail delays see people left without important letters and medication

People living in one part of Merseyside say they have been waiting on important deliveries for up to two weeks.

Jean Lowe is one of a number of New Ferry residents who have experienced problems with their post in recent weeks.

The 65-year-old said she was forced to go to her local sorting office today, December 10, after her heart medication failed to arrive on time despite being dispatched over a week ago.

Jean said this isn’t the first time her medication has been delivered late, and earlier this year she was forced to get an emergency prescription due to the delays.

Royal Mail told the ECHO the postal delays in the New Ferry area are due to “resourcing issues” and apologised for an inconvenience caused.

Posting in a community group on Facebook, Jean asked others if they are receiving post as expected.

Jean told the ECHO: “I find it a bit bizarre that some people on that post I put up are getting their post fine, who only live two roads away from me.

“I’m not happy because it’s my medication.

“I’m able bodied so I can go to the post office if I want to and chase them up which I did today, but there’s people that won’t be able to do that that are more elderly.”

Dozens of people replied to Jean’s Facebook post, with some saying they had also been affected by the postal delays and were waiting on important letters and documents.

One woman said: “Totally agree! Not getting important appointments for hospital and missing them pretty bad really.”

Another said: “You can go to the sorting office and collect your mail. I’ve had to do it a few times over the last few months because I’ve not received post for weeks.”

A third woman added: “I’ve had no expected mail for two weeks now. It is disgraceful.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “The vast majority of mail is delivered safely and on time. We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In the New Ferry area, we have been experiencing some delays to services due to resourcing issues.

“We apologise to customers for any inconvenience they may experience as we work hard to resolve the situation. Anyone who has concerns over the delivery of their mail should contact the Royal Mail customer service team on 03457 740 740 or via the Royal Mail website www.royalmail.com.”
