Kate Middleton’s nanny doesn’t use ‘naughty step’ with royal children

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children, Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three, are cared for by Maria Borrallo, a nanny who was trained at the prestigious Norland College in Bath. The school prides itself on turning out very high-quality nannies, and while many families adopt the ‘naughty step’ by means of teaching children right from wrong, this is not the Norland way.

What is Norland?

According to the website, the company was “founded in 1892 by educational pioneer Emily Ward”.

“Norland was the first educational establishment to offer any kind of childcare training.

“World-famous for providing the very best early years training and education, Norland remains cutting-edge.

“Today’s students pursue the most up-to-date academic childcare training and the highest practice standards in line with the latest research,” it read.

Louenna also said teaching children through “being a good role model” and explaining good versus bad behaviour.

“‘That’s not how we behave, we don’t do that’ rather than using the naughty step,” she told Hello!.

Norland nannies also encourage outside play as it provides a “huge benefit to their mental wellbeing and their behaviour”.
