Royal Mail to ‘double’ the number of home tests available after running out

Royal Mail is to double the number of coronavirus home tests that will be available to the public.

Speaking live from Downing Street this evening the Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed there will be 900,000 home tests a day available from Saturday.

It comes as there were no lateral flow tests available to order from the Government website twice this week.

A message on the site on Tuesday morning said there were no tests available for home delivery, although tests can still be collected from pharmacies.

On Monday, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said that “due to exceptionally high demand, ordering lateral flow tests on gov.uk has been temporarily suspended to fulfil existing orders”.

Now, as Omicron cases rise and the highest number of coronavirus cases in a day was recorded, with 78,610 as of 9am today, the PM revealed the number of home tests is being increased.

He said: “We’re helping people to get the tests they need.

“I want to thank Royal Mail who are doubling the number of home testing kits to 900,000 a day from Saturday.

“So let’s slow down Omicron’s spread.”
