Cork community loses vital post office due to Covid-19 impact

A Cork Post Office has been forced to close temporarily “due to the impact of Covid-19”.

Blarney Post Office has been closed and will remain shut until the 10th of January.

This now leaves locals of Blarney to make the 9km trip to Blackpool to collect social welfare.

This comes as the spread of the virus has taken a toll on businesses, with many closing across the county.

A spokesperson for An Post said: “Blarney Post Office is currently closed. We expect it to reopen next Monday, 10th January.

“Social Welfare payments may be collected at Blackpool Post Office with immediate effect.

“No other Cork Offices impacted just now but it is a rapidly changing situation.

“Postal deliveries are also being impacted in some areas but we are doing everything possible to rotate staff and ensure regular deliveries and collections to all routes,” they added.

The same Post Office was in danger of closing permanently 18 months ago, as An Post searched for a permanent branch manager.
