Royal Mail: Company warns customers of even more delays – 35 postcodes affected

Royal Mail is struggling to keep up with demand due to Covid-related issues, such as staff shortages. Consequently, there are more postcodes affected by delayed mail today than yesterday, meaning many Britons across the UK will be waiting days for their deliveries to arrive. Which areas are most affected?

The postal service has not only updated customers on which postcodes are affected by late mail, but also which mail centres.

Royal Mail explained that it operates an air, rail, and road network to move letters and parcels between its distribution hubs, mail processing centres, and delivery offices around the UK.

Although its air, rail, and road networks have been operating to schedule over the last 24 hours, there are some issues with the company’s mail centres.

Only one mail centre reported issues yesterday, while seven have been experiencing problems today.

Royal Mail said: “The mail centres below reported not all mail was processed or despatched to schedule over the weekend, and as a result may be delivered slightly later than expected.”

The company continued to list the mail centres, as written below.

Chelmsford Mail Centre: Some mail posted in other parts of the UK yesterday, due for delivery today to addresses in the CM, CO and SS postcode areas.

“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”

Britons have yet again taken to social media over the past 24 hours to complain about missed or delayed mail.

Twitter user @Sutthausen said: “Posted a card from Colchester to Chelmsford (23 miles) on 7th December. Still not arrived.”

User @JackiHicks wrote: “Posted a Birthday Card to my niece in London on 10th December – 1st Class Signed For and she still hasn’t received it. I have opened an ‘enquiry’ with @RoyalMail but I’ve had no further updates.”

User @CasualChess added: “@RoyalMail straight up lying to journalists about postal delays of a month to some postcodes. We are understanding about Covid staffing shortages: not of dishonestly pretending the delays are a few days. Local groups have hundreds of residents reporting three week delays. For shame.”
