People in Somerset town say they have had no post since Christmas

Mail deliveries are being disrupted in parts of Weston-super-Mare – due to a shortage of postal staff due to covid.

People living on the Weston Villages development have been complaining they have not received regular mail since Christmas.

Some say they have only received mail on a couple of days, while some say they have not heard the letterbox rattle once.

The issue with deliveries is understood to only be affecting some parts of the development including Carberry Road, Abbey Gardens, Plumbley Park and Hestercombe.

Some residents say they are still receiving Christmas cards which should have arrived weeks ago.

Where deliveries have been made, they have sometimes been in the evening.

One resident said: “I don’t think I’ve had any post since Christmas.”

Royal Mail bosses said the issue was down to high levels of sickness amongst staff and some having to isolate due to covid.

The spokesman added that Royal Mail was ‘working hard’ to resolve the issue.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “The vast majority of mail is delivered safely and on time.

“We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

“In the local area we are experiencing some delays to service due to high levels of sickness absence and Covid related self-isolation.

“We apologise to any customers who may have experienced delays to their mail.

“We have been working hard to get our levels of service back to normal as soon as possible.

“Anyone who has concerns over the delivery of their mail should contact the Royal Mail customer service team on 03457 740 740 or via the Royal Mail website www.royalmail.com.”
