How to order the Royal Mail designs and when the 60th anniversary stamps are released

Royal Mail has announced that it is releasing a special set of stamps celebrating The Rolling Stones.

The commemorative designs pay tribute to the iconic rock band as it marks its 60th anniversary this year.

Here’s everything you need to know about the stamps and how you can order them from Royal Mail.

What are the Rolling Stones stamps?

The 12 designs cover some of the Rolling Stones’ most famous performances in the 60 years since they formed in London in 1962.

They commemorate dates such as the band’s show in London Hyde Park on 5 July 1969, just two days after the death of founding member Brian Jones.

That free outdoor concert, dubbed The Stones In The Park, featured replacement guitarist Mick Taylor, who was later replaced by Ronnie Wood.

Wood, Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards – the surviving members of the band – worked closely with Royal Mail to produce the stamps.

The designs also pay tribute to Charlie Watts, the band’s drummer who died in August last year at the age of 80.

Eight of the stamps feature the band onstage, with their Knebworth show in August 1976 and Rotterdam concert in August 1995 among the other performances commemorated.

The remaining four comprise of two portraits of the band and two reproductions of their vintage world tour posters.

How can you order the Rolling Stones stamps from Royal Mail?

The designs, which are a mixture of 1st class and £1.70 stamps, go on sale from January 20, but you can pre-order them from Royal Mail here.

Prices start at £5.10 for the four miniature portrait and poster stamps, with the eight performance designs costing £10.20.

You can also get limited edition stamp books and envelopes, while a special edition gold-plated set of the designs will cost you £149.99.

The Rolling Stones are only the fourth music group to feature in a dedicated stamp issue, following The Beatles in 2007, Pink Floyd in 2016 and Queen in 2020.

David Gold, Royal Mail’s director of public affairs and policy, said: “Few bands in the history of rock have managed to carve out a career as rich and expansive as that of the Rolling Stones.

“They have created some of modern music’s most iconic and inspirational albums, with ground-breaking live performances to match.”
