Rolling Stones honored with 60th anniversary Royal Mail stamps

Stamp collectibles will be available Jan 20th

The British Royal Mail is honoring The Rolling Stones with a stamp collection for its 60th anniversary. The collection features eight special stamps, with images capturing the band at their energetic best over the years, within a special souvenir pack featuring the band’s iconic tongue and lips logo. The pack contains two protective strips to keep the stamps in mint condition and will be available starting January 20th.

“Few bands in the history of rock have managed to carve out a career as rich and expansive as that of the Rolling Stones,” David Gold, Royal Mail’s director of public affairs and policy says in a press statement. “They have created some of modern music’s most iconic and inspirational albums, with ground-breaking live performances to match.”

Nearly 40 different collectibles and gift sets will be offered through the Royal Mail website featuring medals, miniature sheets, framed prints, postcards and more. A variety of limited edition products are also available.

Among them are a strictly limited souvenir edition of The Rolling Stones Prestige Stamp Book, protected in a flight case style box. Written by prominent music critic Alexis Petridis, the 24- page comprehensive guide charts the glittering career of one of the world’s most famous rock and roll bands. The set contains all 12 stamps exclusive to the stamp issue perforated within the book.

Each book in the limited print run of 5,000 features a special edition front cover with the iconic Stones tongue and lips logo and has been individually numbered on the back cover. It also includes an ‘Access all areas’ Certificate of Authenticity.

The bespoke flight case presentation box is decorated with Rolling Stones artwork and comes complete with acoustic foam inside to hold and protect the stamp book.

Also available is a special edition replica of The Rolling Stones Stamp Set finished in pure 24 carat gold. The set is officially licensed and strictly limited to just 1,962 sets in honor of The Rolling Stones’ first gig at the Marquee Club in 1962. It’s the first gold stamp set issued by Royal Mail in its Music Giants stamp series.

Each of the eight stamps in the set is colorized with selective embossed detailing to produce a stunning finish. It’s presented in a custom-made black slip case with the iconic Rolling Stones tongue and lips logo in eye-catching gold foil print. Each one includes an individually numbered certificate of authenticity.

In February, replica stamps produced in solid silver featuring the band performing at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in 1972 and in New Jersey during their 2019 No Filter Tour will be available.

The stamp ingots are struck from 1 oz of 999 Ag pure silver with perforated style edging and selective embossed detailing to the Queen’s head and value to achieve the unique appearance of a stamp. The stamp design is printed in full color with the iconic Rolling Stones tongue and lips logo struck to a proof finish on the reverse and hallmarking to confirm the silver content.

A limited edition of 1,962 of each will be manufactured. Each one will be presented in a sleek presentation box with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity.
