Postie manages to deliver letter addressed to ‘somewhere in the Yorkshire Dales’

A man was surprised when he received a letter that didn’t even have his address on it, as the sender had written ‘somewhere in the Yorkshire Dales’ alongside a rambling description

Mark Dale received a letter that didn’t even have his address on it

A postie managed to successfully deliver a letter that was addressed to ‘somewhere in the Yorkshire Dales’.

Mark Dale had heard a recent story about Royal Mail managing to successfully deliver a letter that had no address written on it, so wanted to try it for himself.

His friend, Andy Pem, volunteered to send him a recipe in the post but only included Mark’s name, and ‘somewhere in the Yorkshire Dales’, alongside a description of him.

A post-master contacted Mark after recognising his description, but he refused to share his proper address – and amazingly the letter turned up a few days later.

Taking to Facebook, Mark wrote: “So, last week, I had a bit of a winge on my timeline, that the BBC were doing a big news story about how a letter got delivered with no real address.

“I said how I’d had one, years ago. Anyway, a friend, on that thread, said he’d try it, and sent me a letter.”

The address on the envelope was quite creative

The letter posted to Mark was addressed: “Chef Mark Dale, somewhere in the Yorkshire Dales, likes 4×4 Pajero’s, curly Haired lad, some top hotel chef.”

Mark said a postmaster saw the thread on Facebook and commented, asking for his address – but he refused.

Mark continued: “On that thread, a lady commented that she was from Royal Mail and they had it, could I send an address.

“I said well, you’re 90 per cent there, finding me, so to get my address should be easy now. And today, it arrived special delivery!”

Meanwhile, a man recently shared his amazement after a letter arrived at his home with a description of who he was, rather than an address.

Musician Feargan Lynn had a surprise when a thin white letter popped through the letterbox with ten lines of text rather than the usual address.

Sharing the hilarious moment on Twitter, Feargal gave Royal Mail a shout out, congratulating the mail deliverer for tracking him down.

“Hearty applause to @RoyalMail Cushendall and Ballymena for being able to deliver this letter to me today got a much needed laugh!” he wrote.

“They had a first name, the village where I grew up and half the postcode.. the rest is more like my life story!”
