Royal flush! Queen forced to step in after ‘spoiled’ Prince Andrew and Charles rowed about a toilet

The Queen was forced to step in after a bizarre row between Prince Andrew and Prince Charles over a bathroom, a former Buckingham Palace maid has claimed.

Janette McGowan said the ‘petulant’ Duke of York took a bathroom at Sandringham intended for his older brother and refused to remove his toiletries.

She said the row, which took place at Christmas in 1999, was only resolved when the Queen intervened and spoke to Andrew who was then 39.

Speaking to The Sun, Ms McGowan, who was a housemaid from 1999 to 2000, claimed household staff were told ‘not to move anything and not to touch anything in that bathroom because there was an “ongoing situation”’.

She added: ‘Charles was very grown-up about it, which is more than you can say for Andrew.’

Addressing the squabble Ms McGowan said: ‘I think it was very petulant. He’s [Andrew] very spoiled with regards to his own rights.’

At the time, Prince Andrew was living permanently at Buckingham Palace.

Mail+ has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

Earlier this month, the Queen stripped her second son of his honorary military roles, as the monarchy moved to distance itself from him as he faces a US civil lawsuit over alleged sexual assault.

He must now fight claims of rape and sexual assault in the US courts as a private citizen.

Prince Andrew denies the allegations made against him.
