Residents in an area of Cornwall have been left frustrated with their local postal service after not receiving post for almost a week.
Richard Brown said that he has been waiting for important documents to arrive but has had no post delivered to his home for almost a week.
He told CornwallLive: “I’m currently waiting for my driving licence and the documents to arrive for my new car but I haven’t received any post since last Saturday.
“I only found out that there was a problem with the postal service in my local area when I looked on a community group on Facebook and a few people also said they haven’t received any post for almost a week.
“So, I decided to phone the Royal Mail’s customer service department in Plymouth, who told me that there is a problem at the Newquay sorting office due to staff sickness.”

Richard, from Quintrell Downs, just outside Newquay, added that what has left him frustrated is that he does not know when he will receive his post and has branded the delay as “unacceptable”.
“I was told that it could be weeks before I get my post and I just think that is not good enough. I’m getting really frustrated because I really need these documents and I don’t even know when I’ll get them,” he said. “We usually have such a good postal service in my village but this is just typical of everything that’s happening with Covid at the moment.”

It seems that the issue has also been affecting the wider area in Newquay as many residents have taken to Facebook to share their concerns.
One resident shared a post asking if there has been a problem with the postal service in Newquay after his deliveries have been missing for several days.
Lee Evans responded to the post saying: “Definitely, there’s two or three days at the moment where there’s no post, then a large amount on one day. They must have staff issues I reckon.”
Someone else said: “Yep, big problems, we haven’t had our post for over a week now, the delivery van is going round and the driver has been so helpful but no postman/woman doing the rounds, reading between the lines there are extreme staffing issues, they are really struggling.
“I am waiting on a re-delivery that didn’t arrive, have been into the [local] office several times but again, have been told continually that they are very low on staff and struggling. I have been given the impression that we are unlikely to receive post this week and can only hope for some next week.”
Others have also said they have received letters and first class parcels several days late and that they have been made aware that the issue is down to staff sickness.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “The vast majority of mail is delivered safely and on time. We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In the local area, we are experiencing some delays to service due to high levels of sickness absence, Covid related self-isolation and resourcing issues.
“We apologise to any customers who may have experienced delays to their mail. We have been working hard to get our levels of service back to normal as soon as possible.”
Anyone who has concerns over the delivery of their mail has been encouraged to contact the Royal Mail customer service team on 03457 740 740 or via the Royal Mail website www.royalmail.com.
