Did Yes-men stop Prince Charles from rebuffing Jimmy Savile? Is Andrew manipulating the Queen?

Did Yes-men stop Prince Charles from rebuffing Jimmy Savile? Is Andrew manipulating the Queen? And why is Meghan Markle trying to trademark an ancient word? All this and more on our unmissable Palace Confidential royal talk show

  • A new Netflix documentary reveals Prince Charles’s proximity to the late  sex-offender Jimmy Savile
  • Royal talk show, Palace Confidential, turns the spotlight on Prince Andrew’s finances as he received £1m
  • Daily Mail’s Diary Editor, Richard Eden, says ‘Archetype’ is a 15th century word and asked if Meghan can trademark it?

Prince Charles’s proximity to the late sex-offender Jimmy Savile were laid bare in a new Netflix documentary this week.

Royal writer Angela Levin believes that the heir’s coterie of ‘Yes-men’ might have been to blame for failing to do their due diligence over the disgraced TV star.

‘For all the number of aides that he’s got – most of them are Yes-men, most of them are frightened to tell him what they really think, because they don’t want to say no to him,’ she tells our royal talk show Palace Confidential.

‘I think with aides they’re very good up to a certain extent… I mean Camilla would have probably made a big difference.’

Levin, who interviewed Savile twice, also recounts on the programme her own shocking experiences when she met him in the 1980s.

Meanwhile, Prince Andrew’s finances were thrust into the spotlight this week after it was revealed that he had received payments of more than £1m from a Turkish man accused of fraud.

Andrew and Salman Turk deny any wrongdoing but, says the Daily Mail’s Stephen Wright, ‘a lot of unanswered questions remain about the wisdom of them receiving this money from Salman Turk and not asking more questions about where it came from.’

It’s Andrew’s hold over the Queen that prevents the royal family doing more to make Andrew’s finances more transparent, argues Angela Levin.

‘He has a way of manipulating her and using her to give him what he wants,’ she says.

‘And I don’t think she will change while she’s alive.’

With Meghan Markle’s new podcast on the way, legal team have been busying themselves trying to trademark the show’s title Archetypes.

The Daily Mail’s diary editor Richard Eden points out that unlike the Sussexes’ foundation Archewell – archetype is an old word dating to the 15th century.

‘It’s very general, anyone now who wants to have a programme about say women in classical music and call it Archetypes, they would legitimately say, no you’re infringing my trademark,’ he says.

‘The idea of trademarking and owning a word like that does seem quite strange.’
