Tesco improves click and collect offering

UK supermarket giant Tesco has added 102 new click and collect sites to its network in the 2021 financial year. At the same time it launched its Tesco Whoosh rapid delivery service as it seeks to improve its delivery and collection offer to customers.

Tesco Whoosh now operates out of more than 200 stores and offers a choice from more than 1,700 products. The supermarket giant plans to roll this out to more than 600 stores in the coming year. At the same time it is piloting delivery through ultra-fast delivery company Gorillas out of its Thornton Heath store.

For its urban deliveries, the company now operates four urban fulfilment centres, three of which opened in 2021. Its Lakeside fulfilment centre opened in the first half of the year while its Bradford and Horwich centre opened in the second half. It has plans to open a fifth in Rutherglen in May this year. The company said that urban fulfilment centres achieve four times higher picking rates than store based picking, justifying the use of these units.
