Popular deli and Post Office in Leicestershire village has been sold as current owner prepares to retire

A Post Office and deli in the village of Great Bowden, near Market Harborough, has been sold. The freehold sale of Welton’s Post Office and Deli has been announced by specialist business property adviser, Christie and Co.

Since 2009, Welton’s has been owned and operated by Nicky Ransome, who is now preparing to retire. Nicky has developed the business into what is described as “an asset for the local community and surrounding villages”, with a Post Office, deli and coffee shop, and a newspaper delivery service.

After launching the business to the open market on behalf of Nicky, Christie and Co received a lot of interest, which they attribute to the store’s good reputation locally and the multiple income streams. According to the property adviser, the business has further potential by extending the opening hours and adding an extension to the side of the property.

Dave Morris, regional director in Christie and Co’s retail team handled the sale. He said: “Nicky has worked tirelessly to create a popular destination business in this sought-after village. The post office was a vital service for locals during the pandemic and has remained a critical local asset and popular feature for buyers, given the footfall they drive to the business.

“It has been great to help Nicky achieve a sale so she can now look forward to her retirement. We wish her and the new owner all the best for the future.”

Nicky said: “Firstly, I want to say a big thanks to all our customers who have supported us from the beginning and throughout the last two years, while we were all greatly affected the pandemic. Big thanks to Dave Morris at Christie and Co as well, for his help successfully selling our business.”

The new operator is keen to settle into the business before making any plans or changes.
