Police are investigating after a Royal Mail postbox was mown down by a delivery driver in the city centre. The red pillar box – on Trinity Street, in Hanley – was struck by the delivery vehicle on Wednesday night.
It was knocked completely out of the ground in the incident, leaving a hole in the pavement. It has since been removed by Royal Mail which says the site has now been made safe.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to Trinity Street, Hanley, at 3.10am yesterday morning (Thursday 26 May) following reports of a collision. Officers attended and on arrival found a red postbox had been damaged.

“It is understood that a delivery vehicle had collided with the postbox at around 8.15pm on Wednesday (25 May). Inquiries are ongoing.”
Royal Mail says it will replace the red postbox as soon as possible. A spokesman said: “We have removed this damaged postbox from Trinity Street and ensured that the site is safe. We will be replacing it as soon as possible, and are very sorry for any inconvenience caused in the intervening period.”
