Platinum Jubilee bank holiday: Are shops open and will Royal Mail deliver?

A four-day bank holiday weekend will take place to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne.

The May bank holiday weekend has been moved to Thursday, June 2, with an additional bank holiday on Friday, June 3. This will mean many people have a four-day weekend to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

With many of us having parties, events and trips planned, there’s every chance there’ll be some last minute dashes for supplies. And with others spending time at home it can be handy to know whether to expect post and which shops we can visit.

Most supermarkets will open on bank holidays, though many with reduced hours. Store opening hours tend to vary depending on location and store type, so shoppers are strongly advised to check the opening times of their local store before heading over to avoid disappointment.

Alongside pubs, which have been granted an additional two-hour licence to remain open over the period, many other stores will be altering their opening hours too.

Royal Mail has said it will not offer any deliveries or collections on Thursday, June 2, or Friday, June 3. This means there will be no post after Wednesday, June 1, until the following Monday (June 6).
