Will Royal Mail deliver over the platinum jubilee? Post details for Thursday and Friday

The late May bank holiday weekend, often referred to as the spring bank holiday, has been moved to Thursday, June 2 and an additional one has been added on Friday, June 3. The reshuffle is for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and will see the UK get a four-day weekend.

The momentous occasion marks 70 years since Her Majesty’s accession. The Queen, now 96 years old, is officially the world’s longest-serving monarch. You can find out more about her reign here.

To celebrate the unprecedented anniversary, many of us will be attending public events or street parties over the four-day weekend, but for those who have to run a last-minute errand, such as waiting for post or delivering a parcel, it’s worth knowing what to expect.

As many stores and high streets operate on reduced hours over bank holidays and some offices close, the Royal Mail will also be operating a little differently. Here’s everything you need to know.

Will Royal Mail deliver over the Plaitnum Jubilee?

Royal Mail will cease all deliveries over the spring and Platinum Jubilee bank holidays, as is tradition. In England and Wales there will be no collections or deliveries on Thursday, June 2 or Friday, June 3.

Services should operate as usual on Saturday, June 4. The Royal Mail website says: “We deliver and collect your mail on most days of the year, including Saturdays. However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on bank and public holidays.”

Meanwhile, the Post Office has also offered an update, letting customers know opening hours may be impacted by the Platinum Jubilee. In a tweet, they wrote: “Branch opening times may differ this #PlatinumJubilee Bank Holiday. Please check with your local branch in store or on their social media pages for updated opening times. #HM70.”

You can use the Post Office branch finder, here, to check your local store. For more what’s on and shopping stories from WalesOnline, you can get our newsletter here.
