Is there post on the Jubilee weekend? How bank holidays affect Royal Mail and if post offices open on 2 June

The UK is gearing up to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee over a bumper four-day bank holiday weekend.

It is the first time in British history that a monarch has reached the 70-year milestone.

Thousands of street parties have been organised up and down the country, along with official events such as Trooping the Colour and an open-air concert at Buckingham Palace.

And while festivities will be rife, the bank holiday will also interrupt some key services.

Here’s how post will be affected by the jubilee.

Will there be post over the Jubilee weekend?

Royal Mail has confirmed there will be no collections or deliveries on Thursday or Friday as they are both bank holidays.

This is the case across the UK.

Post Offices will be closed. Local branches, such as those inside convenience stores, may still be open, albeit with reduced hours, while Post Offices should be operating at their normal times on Saturday.

You can use the Royal Mail’s branch finder to check for up-to-date information about your local Post Office, or the information you need to contact it directly.

You can still put post into a letter box, but it will not be collected until Saturday.

Letters are collected on Saturdays across the UK from 7am until 1.30pm.

There will also be deliveries on Saturdays. There are never collections or deliveries on Sundays.

When is the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday?

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee bank holiday is on Friday 3 June 2022.

This is almost four months after Elizabeth II celebrated the 70th anniversary of her accession on 6 February 2022.

However, that date also marked 70 years since the death of her father, King George VI, and was therefore not an occasion she wished to celebrate.

The first week of June was instead chosen for the Platinum Jubilee weekend, just like the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilees, with the summer month offering a better chance of good weather.

To create the four-day weekend, the late May spring bank holiday has been moved to Thursday 2 June, with the additional day off following on Friday.
