Royal Collection SUSPENDS Platinum Jubilee sales due to ‘unprecedented demand’ for items

Royal Collection SUSPENDS Platinum Jubilee sales due to ‘unprecedented demand’ for items – with staff battling to meet orders for items including £40 tankard and £65 tea cup set

The Royal Collection has suspended sales of Platinum Jubilee souvenirs due to an ‘unprecedented demand’ for items.

Demand for items such as a £40 tankard and a £65 tea cup set has left staff battling to fulfill orders made online.

The trust, which sells everything from chinaware and glasses, to tea towels and chocolate, is instead urging people to visit in store if they want to buy items.

It comes ahead of the long Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend, which will see four days of events to celebrate The Queen’s 70th anniversary on the throne.

However, those looking to buy items online to mark the occasion may have to contain their excitement for a few days while the backlog of orders is cleared.

Demand for Jubilee-themed souvenirs, including the Royal Collection Trust’s official chinaware, has soared

When trying to buy items from the Royal Collection Trust website, shoppers are confronted with a message saying the online store is unavailable, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The statement says: ‘Due to unprecedented demand, we have had to suspend orders temporarily. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

‘If you have already placed an order, we are working hard to fulfil existing orders as quickly as possible, and you will receive a shipment email upon dispatch.

‘Please return in a few days to place your order online or visit one of our stores.’

The items Royal fans are keen to get their hands on include mugs, teacups and saucers and tankards, available for £25, £65 and £40 respectively.

These chinaware items, which were launched last November, are made by hand in Stoke-on-Trent, while a £35 set of silver spoons is made in County Durham.

People disappointed by the suspension in sales will still be able to buy the items after the Jubilee celebrations wrap up on Sunday, June 5.

Before then the public will be treated to four days of extravagant events in honour of Her Majesty’s 70-year reign.

Thursday will see the celebrations kick off with the Queen’s Birthday Parade, which will involve Trooping the Colour and a six minute display by more than 70 aircraft including the Red Arrows and Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

The Friday will have a Service of Thanksgiving for Her Majesty at St Paul’s Cathedral, which will see Great Paul – the largest church bell in the country at 16.5tons – ring.

Saturday will be a more intense affair, as the Derby at Epsom Downs takes place in the afternoon, with the famous horserace followed by a Platinum Party which will see performances from the likes of Queen and Adam Lambert, Sir Rod Stewart, Andrea Bocelli and Diana Ross.

It is also expected that The Queen will meet her great-grandaughter Lilibet, the youngest child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, for the first time amid the Sussex’s souring of relations

And things will wrap up on Sunday with the Platinum Pageant, which will see a huge parade as the Household Cavalry leads the Gold State Coach along a crowd-thronged carnival route from Whitehall back to Buckingham Palace.

The three-hour pageant, which will feature more than 10,000 people, will culminate with a rendition of God Save the Queen down the Mall and across the nation.
