8% pay rise for PostNL delivery workers

PostNL and three of its main trades unions have agreed a pay rise for its 16,500 Dutch delivery workers worth 8%.

Effective 1st January 2021 (backdated) the delivery staff have a pay rise of 4% while on the 1st January 2023 they will receive another hike of 4%. Amongst other things this will mean that new delivery workers’ income will be above the country’s legal minimum wage.

As well as the basic pay increase, staff will have allowances for bicycles, charging allowances for electric vehicles and travel expenses for commutes. Thanks to energy price trends, these allowances will be reviewed twice annually.

Bob van Ierland, Director of Mail in the Netherlands at PostNL, said: “We’re really happy to have reached this agreement with all of the trade unions involved in the negotiations. It’s a CLA that embodies appreciation for the important job our mail deliverers do, reflected in the pay rise and allowances. We’ve arrived at a CLA that is tailored to the postal market of the future but also matches the situation in a world of rising prices and tight labour markets – the effects of which we also feel keenly.”

The pay rise is in sharp contrast to that offered by the UK’s Royal Mail that faces a summer of Industrial action should it not significantly increase its pay offer to its ow delivery staff and management.
