Belgian bpost is to offer reusable bags for e-commerce parcels that can be re-used up to 100 times. Using these bags for delivery should significantly improve the carbon footprint per parcel.
French company Hipli makes the reusable parcel bags, which will be used for parcels sent by Torf and AS Adventure. The pilot if to begin with Tori between 29 June and 29 September and extended to AS Adventure in August.
During the pilot, Torf expects to make 4,000 shipments with the reusable bpost parcel bags. Meanwhile AS Adventure expect to make 2,000 shipments in the period.
After opening the parcel, the customer folds the packaging up and puts it in a post red postbox, post office, parcel point or parcel point where it enters the system for cleaning and redeployment.
Re-use is commonly accepted as being better for the environment than recycling as it requires less energy in processing than recycling.
