10-year-old Jack Lis was killed after being attacked by a ‘American bully’ dog named ‘The Beast’ last November while visiting a friend  in Caerphilly, South Wales.

The owners of the eight-stone dog, Brandon Hayden and Amy Satler, were jailed earlier in the month for being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury.

‘Jack was a bright and caring pupil who was popular amongst his peers and the teaching staff at Cwm Ifor. Our thoughts are very much with his family at this difficult time and we now need time and space to heal together as a school community,’ Jack’s headteacher Gareth Rees said in a tribute.

In June, three-year-old Stella Gaughan was left needing plastic surgery after suffering deep gashes and severe bruising from an attack by a neighbour’s rescue lurcher.

A pensioner had her scalp ripped open to her skull by a pitbull-type dog in a horrific attack last month. 75-year-old Jacqueline McGrew suffered ‘life-changing injuries’ from the mauling by her friend’s dog.

Almost 1,700 posties were attacked by dogs by dogs last year with some suffering permanent and disabling injuries, according to research released by the Royal Mail earlier this month.

An average of 32 attacks on posties occur a week. 40% happened at the front door, 30% in the garden or driveway and 23% though the letterbox.
