Royal Mail announces a strike in July over job and pay cuts, which will affect deliveries.

It was announced today that Royal Mail managers have decided to strike later this month in protest of a plan to cut jobs and pay.

2,400 managers, according to the Unite union, will strike from July 15 through July 19 before returning to work on July 20 through July 22. Deliveries won’t be covered continuously during this time.

The union claimed that after failing to stop Royal Mail from taking “ruinous” action to cut 700 jobs and up to £7,000 in pay, its members have no choice but to go on strike.

Sharon Graham, the general secretary of Unite, alleged that Royal Mail “puts profits ahead of its duties.”

“There is not one single aspect of these cuts that is about enhancing customer service,” she continued. They are solely motivated by a culture of greed and profiteering that has taken control of a 500-year-old vital service and brought it dangerously close to collapse.

“Our members have Unite’s full support as they work to force the company to choose a different course of action.”
