Princess Charlotte reveals her favourite sport is gymnastics at Commonwealth Games

Princess Charlotte was on her best behaviour as she shook hands with sporting VIPs on a second Commonwealth Games visit with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge today – and proudly revealed her favourite sport is gymnastics

The little royal, seven, joined her mother Kate Middleton, 40, and her father Prince William, 39, for a visit to a programme supporting young athletes on a busy day of engagements at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Arriving at SportsAid House, Princess Charlotte shook hands with her hosts and followed her parents’ lead as she was introduced to athletes, before saying her favourite sport was gymnastics.

Her mother, dressed in a 1,945 white Alexander McQueen trouser suit, went on to explain: ‘Charlotte spends most of her time upside-down, doing handstands and cartwheels.’

Meanwhile Princess Charlotte, who was wearing a £44 Rachel Riley dress, appeared happy to attend the event today, which marked the first time the little Princess has joined her parents for a solo outing without one of her brothers, Prince George, eight, and Prince Louis, four.

The little royal is proving to be quite the sporting fan – days ago, she joined her father for a video message in sending her best wishes to the Lionesses ahead of the Euro 2022 final.

The Duchess of Cambridge revealed her daughter Princess Charlotte’s favourite sport is gymnastics and she spends ‘most of her time upside down’ as they arrived together for an engagement on Tuesday afternoon

During the outing, the family met a group of young athletes and support staff at SportsAid House and heard about the support they are receiving from the Futures programme.

The couple  then took part in an interactive workshop alongside some athletes where they learnt about the practical advice provided to athletes on nutrition and restful sleep.

The experience appeared a little startling for Charlotte, who placed her fingers in her ears during one moment in the workshop when a loud noise went off.

Kate could be seen leaning down to chat and comfort her daughter during the moment.

Team England Futures will see around 1,000 talented young athletes and aspiring support staff given the opportunity to attend the Games and take a first-hand look behind-the-scenes.

Futures aims to better prepare athletes to deliver medal-winning performances as Team England, Team GB or ParalympicsGB debutants at future Games, while giving support staff a first-hand look at the opportunities they could be presented with, and challenges they may face, at a multi-sport competition.

The programme is designed to help participants understand how to perform at their best, how to handle the pressure and distractions associated with a major Games, and how to make the most of the experience.

In advance of the Games, participants have been benefitting from online learning, focusing on a whole range of performance-related topics, as well as mentoring from senior athletes.

During the Games, every athlete and support staff member participating in Futures will be invited to watch live sporting events and spend time with mentors and ambassadors – including Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth medalists – sharing advice and knowledge from their own careers.

Kate was dazzling in the £1,370 fresh white jacket with matching £575 trousers from her favourite designer Alexander McQueen.

The mother-of-three has a close affiliation with Alexander McQueen having worn the British fashion house’s designs on notable occasions, most famously to her wedding in 2011.

This is the third time this year the Duchess has worn the suit – having first worn the suit during her controversy Caribbean tour earlier this year, she went on to visit a youth group with Prince William to mark Windrush Day.

The royal swept her long brunette locks back from her face in a bouncy blow dry for the occasion.

Meanwhile she kept her makeup neutral for the occasion, opting for a sweep of dark eyeliner and a touch of lipstick.

Keeping her look simple, the Duchess opted for minimal jewellery – but added some glitz to her look with her Mappin & Webb Empress Earrings in White Gold.

Today is just the latest public appearances from Princess Charlotte over the past few months. The little royal attended a number of different events to mark the Queen’s Jubilee earlier this summer.

Meanwhile she and Prince George took part in their first official engagement at the same time, joining the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to visit Cardiff in June.

Princess Charlotte has become a favourite of royal fans thanks to her sassy personality. She has been snapped pulling funny faces, waving to photographers – and even sticking her tongue out on a family outing.

Senior royals are representing the Queen at the Commonwealth Games as she continues to take a step back from royal duties. The monarch, 96, remains in residence in her Scottish home of Balmoral, in Aberdeenshire.

Prince Charles stood in for his mother at the spectacular opening ceremony and was greeted by cheers as he drove into the stadium in an Aston Martin.

Meanwhile Sophie and Edward have made a number of appearances during the competition thus far.

The couple attended the contest yesterday alongside their children Lady Louise, 18, and James, 14.

James and Lady Louise joined the rest of the family for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations earlier this year, but have largely grown up away from the limelight.

Lady Louise looked pretty in a pink and blue dress at the event, rewearing a Peter Pilotto gown from her mother’s wardrobe, while James and Sophie showed emotional reactions as they watched the action.

The Countess first wore the pretty Pilotto dress for a trip to the Chelsea Flower Show in May 2015.

Sophie donned a £795 frock from royal-approved designer Peter Pilotto to take in the action across a number of sporting events.

The couple started off with a trip to the gymnastics arena before taking their seats for a rugby sevens match.
