Help needed for woman hosting event for terminally ill grandma

A WORKINGTON mum is planning to host an event to celebrate her terminally ill grandmother’s life – but she needs your help.

Only this week Paige Rourke, was told the devastating news that her grandma, Jean Royale, from Maryport has just weeks to live following a brave battle against cancer.

The shock announcement was all the more distressing as the family were recently told that the cancer was shrinking, and Jean was getting better.

Paige has spoken candidly of her family’s ‘heartbreak’ when they were told the devastating news that her cancer had spread.

Jean is a beloved mother to Sandra, Donna and Kelly and has a large, loving and supportive family who want to pay tribute to a remarkable woman.

Jean, who is in her late 50s, is well known in her Maryport community for taking struggling children out of the care system, mothering them and giving them a loving home.

Despite her cancer battle, Jean was still giving youngsters a home like Tyler, who was living with Jean and only recently lost his own granddad.

Paige is hosting an event next to her grandma’s house on Sunday, August 21 to show her how loved she is in her community and for her family to celebrate her life.

‘’It would be lovely to give her something back to show how much we appreciate and love her,’’ said Paige.

However, in order to pull off this special event, Paige and her close-knit family need your help.

Jean’s family are looking for the community to come together and for people to donate items, such as a gazebo or tent, a sound system, tables, chairs and any party decor to help celebrate Jean’s life.

Paige would also like it if a singer would come and sing some of Jean’s favourite songs by the Jersey Boys and the Carpenters.

‘’We are limited to what we can have and do because of the oxygen tanks that nanna has, but to have this would be a dream for all of us to say our goodbyes,’’ said Paige.

‘’It’s going to hit us all massively, if anyone can help supply the above, it’d mean the world.’’

Paige hopes the event will create one final special memory for her and her family with their grandma.

If anyone can donate anything, no matter how small, they are encouraged to get in touch with Paige directly either by ringing her on 07938498258, emailing her on brownpaige1993@gmail.com or contacting her through Facebook.

The event will be held on the field next to 9 Mandle Terrace, Crosby Villa, Maryport, CA15 7BA.
